Cooking

Cooking in the early years involves children actively handling, preparing, and tasting food, which builds confidence, supports fine motor skills, and fosters a positive relationship with healthy eating.

Food-based activities provide hands-on learning opportunities across various subjects, from counting and measuring (maths) to observing ingredient changes (science). They also enhance social-emotional development through teamwork and a sense of accomplishment, while increasing children's willingness to try new foods.

We are lucky enough to have our own 'super cook' in Mrs Brown!  She works across the classes supporting and helping children to explore different foods and making exciting creations.

There are numerous benefits to cooking with young children:

  • Promotes healthy eating habits
  • Develops physical skills
  • Boosts confidence and independence
  • Supports language development
  • Encourages mathematical skills
  • Sparks scientific enquiry
  • Strengthens social bonds

Below are a few of Mrs Brown's favourite recipes for you to have a go at cooking with your little one at home.
